This is so interesting. My nephew bought the old bank and has converted it into a very nice home for himself. He loves living there.
I am told that my Great Grandfather was the first MD on Deal Island. I hope to visit the island this summer - 2021 - to learn more about the area and its history. The pictures are beautiful, can't wait to see everything in person. Kathy Todd Wawrzyniak, Vermont, born in Balto.Md
I was born & raised in Crisfield. My home was surrounded by homes & families that had moved their homes by their boats in pieces from Hollands Island. IT Todd was my neighbor who was featured in the National Geographic about the island.
I loved reading this and hope to read more about as it becomes available, I've always loved coming to Princess Anne visiting my Aunt and Uncle, wish I had been able to live down here. I've always felt so at home here for some reason.. Thanks for the read.. God Bless..
Part I will be a tough act to follow. It's Excellent Old-timers said Holland Islanders sailed their homes "whichever way the wind was blowing." As told in the book "Holland Island: Lost Atlantis of the Chesapeake," they did indeed go in many more directions than Crisfield. Their Victorians still stand today, scattered from Crisfield to Bishops Head, Cambridge, and on north to Tilghmans Island.
Caitlyn--wonderful job on this. Beautiful, visual writing.
Caitlyn, very well written and can't wait to read the rest. And, Go Mountaineers !!!
Thank you!
