    Chesapeake Executive Council Meeting

    On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the Chesapeake Executive Council will hold its annual meeting and press conference. As the final meeting before the landmark year of 2025, the Council will set the path for the next phase of Chesapeake Bay restoration. This includes the signing of a directive that will create the first new advisory committee for the partnership since the late 1980s.

    The Chesapeake Executive Council was established by the Chesapeake Bay Agreement of 1983 to set goals and provide guidance for the regional federal-state Chesapeake Bay Program partnership.

    The meeting will take place physically in the Governor's Hall of the Governor Calvert House. Please note that there is no on-site parking at the Governor Calvert House. Several parking garages are available within close walking distance.

    2014 Chesapeake Executive Council Meeting and Press Conference

    The Chesapeake Executive Council will convene on June 16th for a public meeting and press conference. Executive Council members are expected to sign the new Chesapeake Watershed Agreement, a voluntary and transparent commitment among the Chesapeake Bay partners to protect and restore the watershed. The public meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Governor's Reception Room at the Maryland State House, and will conclude at 12:00 noon. The press conference will begin at Susan B. Campbell Park at Annapolis City Dock at 1:30 p.m. In the event of rain or other inclement weather, the press conference will be held in the Governor's Reception Room.     2008 Chesapeake Executive Council Meeting

    The Chesapeake Executive Council will hold its annual meeting at Union Station in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, November 20. Members of the Executive Council represent the various partners of the Chesapeake Bay Program and establish the policy direction for the restoration and protection of the Bay and its watershed. At this year’s meeting, the Executive Council will set the partnership’s plans for 2009 and beyond, as well as review actions taken during the past year. The meeting will be held in Union Station’s Columbus Club. There will be presentations on 2008 restoration efforts, the Chesapeake TMDL and biofuels from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. The Executive Council will hold a news conference at 2:00 p.m. All attendees are encouraged to use public transportation (metro or train) or carpool to Union Station.

    Executive Council Meeting - 2007

    Governor Martin O'Malley will host a day-long meeting to discuss efforts to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay. During the meeting the Council will hear presentations on Chesapeake 2000 nutrient and sediment reduction progress, biofuels, and partnerships to achieve more sustainable land use and development patterns. Members of the Council will sign a new Forest Conservation Plan that establishes state-specific forest conservation goals and strategies.

    2003 Executive Council Meeting

    The 2003 annual meeting of the Chesapeake Executive Council will take place on December 9 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. The meeting returns Bay restoration leaders to the George Mason University Student Union to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first Chesapeake Bay Agreement. The 1983 agreement committed the Bay states and federal government to work together to restore the Bay through the Chesapeake Bay Program. The Executive Council – which includes the governors of Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, the mayor of the District of Columbia, the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the chair of the Chesapeake Bay Commission – is expected to discuss accelerated nutrient reduction efforts, improved blue crab fishery management and expanded riparian forest buffer restoration goals. After their meeting, Executive Council members will make brief remarks beginning at approximately 10:50 a.m.

    2001 Annual Executive Council Meeting

    On December 3, 2001, the Chesapeake Executive Council held its annual meeting at Washington, DC's Union Station. The Executive Council set in motion policies to improve storm water management on federal, state and District-owned land and hosted two signing ceremonies enhancing partnerships formed to restore the Chesapeake Bay. In keeping with this year's theme of improving urban waterways, the 2001Anacostia Watershed Restoration Agreement was signed to restore the Anacostia River, one of the key Priority Urban Waters identified in the Chesapeake 2000 agreement. The second agreement, among the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Center for Watershed Protection and the National Association of Home Builders, launched the "Builders for the Bay" program which encourages Bay-friendly development practices.
